NBA Ibadan Branch Election: Lawal Promises to Run a Courageous Bar

Ahead of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ibadan branch election, one of the Chairmanship candidates in the election, Mr.Ibrahim Lawal ( Ibro), has promised to run a courageous and vibrant administration if elected the branch Chairman.

A post on his Facebook wall reads: “We have presented our manifesto today, yours sincerely promised a courageous bar in line with the object of the association as enshrined in the NBA Constitution which goes thus:

“The objects of the Branch shall be: (1) The maintenance of the honour and independence of the Bar and
the Judiciary, and the defence of the Bar in its relations with the Judiciary, the Executive and the Legislature particularly in the State where the Branch is situate;

(2) The maintenance and enforcement of the highest standards of professional
ethics, conduct, etiquette and discipline;

“(3) The promotion and protection of the public right of access to the Courts and of representation of counsel before courts and Tribunals.

“The promotion of the principles of the Rule of Law, respect for, and enforcement
of fundamental liberties;

(5) The improvement of the administration of Justice, its procedures and the
arrangement of court business; Etc.
“I have promised to be a bulwark against violation of the rule of law.

I stated in an unmistaken terms that the Bar under my leadership will speak against the government if their actions and policies are against the rule of law. I also promised that I will also speak for the judiciary and against them if their conduct are not in line with the rule of law.

“I also promised the enforcement of the Legal Practitioners Renumeration Order as handed down by the NBA National. I will further ensure the enforcement of ethical standards for lawyers as well as fight against all forms of touting in the legal profession.

Vote Right, Act Right” Ibrahim Lawal stated.
