Lawyers Must Be Properly Remunerated; Afam Osigwe SAN at the NBA Yenagoa Branch Meeting

Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association ( NBA), Remuneration Committee, Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN, has called for proper remuneration of lawyers at the just concluded law week of the NBA, Yenagoa Branc
“Afam Osigwe, SAN, recently attended the monthly branch meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yenagoa Branch, where he delivered a speech on the critical importance of compliance with the Remuneration Order 2023.
“In his address, Afam Osigwe underscored the significance of the Remuneration Order as a pivotal regulation aimed at standardizing and ensuring fair compensation for legal services across the country. He highlighted that adherence to this order is essential for maintaining the integrity and professionalism of the legal practice, protecting both lawyers and clients.
“Afam Osigwe, SAN, elaborated on the key provisions of the Remuneration Order 2023, explaining how it sets out minimum fees for various legal services to prevent undercutting and promote equitable remuneration. He pointed out that non-compliance could undermine the profession’s standards and lead to a race to the bottom in terms of legal fees, ultimately affecting the quality of legal services provided.
“He also discussed the benefits of compliance, including fostering a more stable and predictable legal market, enhancing the public’s trust in the legal system, and ensuring that lawyers can sustain their practices while delivering high-quality services. The Learned Silk encouraged members of the Yenagoa Branch to familiarize themselves with the specifics of the order and integrate its guidelines into their billing practices.”
